Nitrites like amyl nitrite, butyl nitrite, isoamyl nitrite and isopropylnitrite are the main ingredients of poppers which have an antihypertensive and vasodilating effect. Sometimes poppers just contain some of these nitrites or a special combination of nitrites. Also manufacturers usually enrich Poppers with different flavours to mask their characteristical smell of chloroform. That is why each sort of poppers has a characteristical smell.
